Propecia

Propecia (generic name: finasteride) is prescribed to treat enlarged prostates as well as male pattern hair loss. The drug’s manufacturer has reported that up to 8 percent of users experience sexual side effects including erectile dysfunction (impotence), but the Journal of Sexual Medicine reports rates as high as 38 percent (depending on dose and duration).

Sexual side effects may be irreversible

Unfortunately, sexual side effects caused by Propecia may be permanent. A second study in the same journal found sexual side effects to last 40 months on average after men stopped taking drugs containing finasteride. About one fifth of the men studied continued to suffer side effects more than six years later.

Doctors in the United States have written millions of prescriptions for Propecia to treat baldness.
